Happy Thanksgiving everyone! At least 50 million turkeys end up on festive dinner plates to mark the occasion. They are domesticated descendants of the wild turkey. But did you know there's another species? Our #speciesoftheweek, the Ocellated Turkey lives primarily in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Other than its Thanksgiving suffering relative this turkey is already classified as near threatened - not with death by dinner but with extinction.
